The CRiB 2018 year culminated in October with a stunning success, with a Gold award and the Cox Cup for best large village in the South West; in addition CRiB also picked up the Michael McGahey Trophy, for 'exceptional community effort' and were joint winners of the Sargent Trophy, shared with Falmouth for "outstanding effort and dedication". Here is how the year went.....

17th Oct 2017 – CRiB, Curry Rivel in Bloom has moved to a new website and has a Facebook page to boot (from 2019 the website has been subsumed into the Curry Rivel Community website – Above the Levels). With a new team leading CRiB.

3rd Nov 2017CRiB Takes On An Allotment. CRiB acquired at no cost an allotment at Heale Lane. Annette Stein Treasurer took possession from Jenny Potts on 3rd Nov 2017.

1st Dec 2017 – December CRiB newsletter. Autumn colour is every bit as important for residents as the summer bedding that the Britain in Bloom judges see.

Bulbs and corms donated by South Somerset District Council are being planted at strategic sites around the village.

17th Feb 2018 – CRiB getting down and dirty.
CRiB volunteers turned up to spread compost on the War Memorial. Their fantastic ensured that the War Memorial planting looked great, not just for the South West in Bloom competition, but more importantly for the 100th anniversary of the end of World War I activities to come.

25th Feb 2018 – March newsletter announces 'Village colour theme'. The predominant colour to be WHITE to signify Peace, a hundred years since the end of the First World War with touches of blue and pink to help bring out the white.
Work on the war memorial permanent garden planting to begin in March, weather permitting, and a thank you to the Parish Council who approved the installation of a water supply at the war memorial. CRIB have applied to Wessex Water for a grant to help pay for this.

19th April 2018 – CRIB started taking orders for hanging baskets, provided by a local nursery.
A new design for the Twinning Area was proposed with Sue Hand and Pat Cilia to planting it up.

28th April 2018 – Dig for CRiB. Volunteers sought to help prepare the new Twinning area for planting.

7th May 2018 – late spring planting around the village.

13th May 2018 – Plant Sale Sun 13th May in the village centre behind the old butcher's shop. Plants in this year's colours of white, pink and blue available.

Granny's Garden, as the newly replanted area around the Twinning area was to become known, was looking great.

17th June 2018 – Thanks to some members of the Wildlife Survey Group and CRiB (Curry Rivel in Bloom) who marshalled the carparking at Curry Rivel Live 2018. Thanks to their valiant arm waving, as little harm as possible was made to the wildflowers at the Eastfield meadow on Sat 16th June.

29th June 2018 Rotary sponsors Sensory Garden. The Rotary Club of Langport and Somerton recently presented a cheque for £150 to sponsor the new Sensory Garden created opposite the War Memorial, as part of Curry Rivel in Bloom.

3rd July 2018 – The CRiB (Curry Rivel in Bloom) War Memorial planting continues apace, gearing up for Judgement Day.

CRiB has just finished construction of an unauthorised Bug Bed & Breakfast. The construction, (will retrospective planning permission be required?) has been built on the allotment provided, rent free, by the Heale Lane Allotment Association.

6th June 2018 – New High St Planters in place.

9th June 2018 – Brownies working at the allotment. The Bug Bed and Breakfast has become a superb hotel. Vegetables and flowers were planted. Radishes and beetroot seed were sown and unbelievably the first leaves have appeared. Wow! The two beds must be like greenhouses at the moment......

12th July 2018 – Judgement Day. The South West in Bloom Judges will be in Curry Rivel on Thurs Morning, 12th July 2018....
Things were looking great New War Memorial Planting. New Granny's Garden at BP corner. New CRiB Allotment. New High St Planting. New Railing Planters. WIldlife Meadow. General Outbreak of flowers all over.

17th July 2018 – Front Garden Competition results. There were 22 fantastic entries in this year's CRiB (Curry Rivel in Bloom) Front Garden Competition, making the village look fantastic, here are the winners.......


18th Aug 2018 Gina wrote: "Struggling through July and August in extreme heat it has been hard work to keep up with watering and dead heading. we have tried to keep our displays going for as long as possible.
Thank you to all our watering volunteers who water pots and troughs around the village every day sometimes twice a day. We could always use more offers of help no matter how much time you can spare."

Curry Rivel Wins RHS Gold, Cox Cup, Sargent Trophy & Michael McGahey Trophy

Curry Rivel in Bloom won Gold in yesterday's South West in Bloom's award ceremony (4th Oct 2018), in Yeovil at the Westlands Centre. Not only did they win a stunning gold, they also won the Cox Cup for the Best Large Village in the South West. The CRiB Team, who had still been reeling from the delight and shock of these two marvellous outcomes, had to step up twice more to pick up the Michael McGahey Trophy, for 'exceptional community effort' and were joint winners of the Sargent Trophy, shared with Falmouth for "outstanding effort and dedication".
