The Annual Assembly

This is organised by the Parish Council on behalf of the residents of the parish (it is NOT a parish council meeting). Refreshments will be available.

  • Representatives from village organisations, groups and businesses are invited to speak about their activities and plans are for the coming year.
  • The Chairman of the parish council will also give a short presentation to summarise the last year and share plans for the coming year.
  • Parishioners are invited to ask questions of any of the speakers.

The formal meeting will usually last for about an hour. Apart from that the meeting is informal and is a good opportunity to meet with people from across the parish so social time and refreshments is available before and after. This year we have a high profile guest speaker!

This annual parish meeting must be held each year between 1st March and 1st June, a right that goes back to medieval times, before parish councils existed. It must include the opportunity to allow any elector to put forward a motion on any topic to do with the village. A vote is by a show of hands. The result of any such vote is not binding on the parish council, but it is traditional for any such motion to be repeated at the next parish council meeting where parish councillors would vote on it again so that a binding decision is made.
