Curry Rivel has previously been designated a Rural Settlement for the purposes of building development.
Now under the Local Plan Consultation produced by South Somerset District Council, the status of 'Village' has been introduced for 12 locations in South Somerset including Curry Rivel.
The proposal means that these 12 locations will be expected to deliver over 1300 new homes within the period of the plan. That figure is a minimum and there will be nothing to prevent developers from submitting proposals that go outside the current build area.
However, the SSDC Local Plan plan makes little or no provision to provide local employment opportunities, improve public transport and roads or reduce pollution and congestion. This could mean more uncontrolled development with no regard to work opportunities, travel, business land or the impact on the environment.
We now urge residents of Curry Rivel to express their own views on the proposal in order to prevent uncontrolled growth in housing in our parish as well as in the wider district of South Somerset
The easiest way is by e mail to strategy@southsomerset.gov.uk
