Road and Safety Improvements in Curry Rivel – Information for Residents

In 2021, Curry Rivel Parish Council commissioned an Active Travel feasibility study covering a number of highway issues in the village as well identifying a suitable route to link Curry Rivel and Langport.

The Parish Council was allocated a sum of funding from the then Somerset Council to implement some priority changes resulting from the Active Travel Study. Somerset Council has since developed the study in order to implement the changes and aid pedestrian safety and active travel.

A consultation has recently been conducted by Somerset Council regarding the proposed changes. Although the period of consultation is now past, Somerset Transport have offered to listen to any further feedback on these proposals.

These road and safety proposals have come about as a result of the Active Travel Study conducted in 2022 adopted by the Parish Council in 2023 and as a result of concerns of safety and traffic congestion around the school especially at the start and close of the school day.

The key proposals in summary are:

• One way working on Church Street to free up space for pedestrians
• Enforceable road markings at the school
• An uncontrolled crossing at the junction with Church Street
• A more visible (potentially built out) uncontrolled crossing on the A378 near the junction with Westfield.
