Our constituency, Somerton and Frome, has been represented in the House of Commons since 2015 by David Warburton, elected as a Conservative. Latterly he sat as an Independent after losing the Conservative whip in April 2022 following allegations of misconduct.
The constituency has been represented in Parliament by four MP's since it's creation in 1983: Robert Boscowan, Con; Mark Robinson, Con; David Heath, LibDem; David Warburton, Con/Ind. At the last General Election in 2019 with a turnout in this constituency of 75.6%, Warburton took over half of the votes – 36,230 or 55.8%.
Warburton resigned as an MP yesterday, thus triggering the first by-election in this constituency since its creation forty years ago.
