Along with other young people from Huish Episcopi Academy, Isobelle will be travelling to Costa Rica next year on a volunteering expedition. Each student must raise £5,000 to fund their trip.

Read about Isobelle's plans, in her own words, and help support where you can.

My Costa Rica Adventure

Hi, my name is Isobelle Ward and I love living in our beautiful and friendly village of Curry Rivel with my family. Firstly, I would like to say thank you for even taking the time to read this.

Next year when I will be 15 years old, I have decided to take on my biggest adventure yet. In July 2025 as part of a small group of us from Huish Episcopi Academy I will be travelling 5,500miles to Costa Rica to take part in a volunteering expedition through Camps International.

The beautiful and biodiverse remote rainforest of Costa Rica will become my new home for 4 weeks, away from all my creature comforts and my family and friends.

This expedition is going to push me outside of my comfort zone, staying in an unfamiliar environment, experiencing challenges that will be both very physical and emotionally demanding whilst being incredibly passionate about making a difference!

I will make such a positive impact on not only our planet but other people's lives. The long-lasting impact through my efforts during this time will be felt throughout the local communities for years to come.

I will be working alongside conservationists to protect the natural environment. Getting back to nature and experiencing what it is like to live in the wonders of the rainforest, where monkeys and toucans will be my closest neighbours.

Working alongside local people in very rural villages and conservation areas where poverty levels are high and where there is virtually no form of income beyond small scale agriculture. I will learn about innovative and sustainable solutions to environmental issues and get involved in the most inspiring projects to support the environment, wildlife and community.

I will be involved with the construction of local hospitals, schools, homes and toilets, whilst helping the environment by planting trees, clearing waste from the sea and vaccinating livestock.

To enable me to make this happen. I need to fundraise £5,000 the cost of my expedition over the next 12 months. I am starting to do this by hosting a Quiz and Chilli Night at Curry Rivel Village Hall on the 6th July 2024 at 6pm with the help of my family and friends.

I really do hope that you can join us for this fun filled evening. You can book your tickets for this event by either scanning the QR code or by visiting my website www.isobelleward.co.uk

My dad Jon has promised not to embarrass me too much as he is taking on the role of the Quiz master! That in itself is going to be entertaining to see!

If you are unable to attend but will still like to donate. Any donation will be so gratefully received. Please do so through https://gofund.me/bc65a242

Thank you once again for reading and we do hope to see you on the 6th July!
