voting election vote

The Parliamentary by election in Somerton and Frome, triggered by the resignation of David Warburton, will take place on 20th July. If you are not already registered to vote you need to make sure you are by 4th July – it is simple enough, but after 4th July you will be too late. Use this LINK or go to www.gov.uk/register-to-vote.

You can apply for a postal vote or nominate a trusted friend/relative to vote on your behalf – a proxy vote. Apply by the 5 pm deadline on 5th July for a postal vote; 5 pm on 12th July for a proxy vote.

More information is available HERE for a postal vote, and HERE for a proxy vote, or search on the Electoral Commission's website www.electoralcommission.org.uk.

Remember, you will now need to bring photo ID if you intend to vote in person at your polling station (the Village Hall in Curry Rivel). This could be a passport, a driving licence or an older or disabled person’s bus pass. For more information the Electoral Commission is your best guide – try HERE. It will also tell you how to obtain a free Voter Authority Certificate if you don't have another form of photo ID. You will need to obtain this by the 5 pm deadline on 12th July.

You can also get advice from the Somerset elections team on 0300 123 2224, 01749 341475 or 01749 341391 if you would prefer to speak to someone.
