What does 4th July mean to you?

Independence Day?

A holiday is the US commemorating the Declaration of Independence in 1776 establishing America's departure from the British Empire, and creating the United States of America.

Oh, not that 4th July then


Ah, yes. Polling day 2024 here in the UK.

You can't fail to have noticed that campaigning has begun and, whether you like it or not, it'll be front and centre of every news broadcast or print media headline beseeching you to support one party or another, as is your hard fought for and won right!

You must be registered to vote so don't forget, if you have not already done so, that you will need to ensure you can exercise that right by registering before June 18th at 11.59 p.m.

For the first time in a General Election, you will need to present ID

Standard forms of ID are valid, including passports and driver's licences. For a full list of forms of ID that will be accepted click HERE.

If you don't possess an accepted form of ID, you can apply for a Voter Authority Certificate via the website HERE. They are free and do not expire, but must be ordered by 5.00 p.m. on 26th June in order to arrive before the election date.

So those dates again:

  • Register to vote by 11.59 p.m. on 18th June
  • Apply for a Voter Authority Certificate by 5.00 p.m. on 26th June
  • Vote at your local polling station (The Village Hall) on 4th July
