Plenty of Halloween fun & games around the bonfire including prizes for best Halloween fancy dress and best decorated pumpkin – or similar vegetable.
Entry includes a hot dog and a drink for everyone – including the very best of Harry's Mulled Cider and apple juices made in Long Sutton. Additional refreshments will be available for purchase.
All proceeds will go to a range of local youth causes that the Rotary Club is supporting this year, and don't worry if the weather is a little inclement, as there will be a marquee for shelter and car parking close by
Punkie Night is a Westcountry custom practised on the last Thursday of October related to Halloween in Somerset in England. Children will march around with a jack o'lantern, singing a song which goes :
"It's Punkie Night tonight It's Punkie Night tonight Adam and Eve would not believe It's Punkie Night tonight"
There are some variants of this old rhyme which also include these lines:
"Give me a candle, give me a light If you don't, you'll get a fright"
or alternatively:
"Give me a candle give me light If you haven't a candle, a penny's all right"
