Curry Rivel Open Gardens 2022

There are now 11 gardens that will open. Please do come, and tell your friends. It is a very enjoyable
afternoon which also raises funds that are distributed around the village. Tickets (the Programme) will be for sale in advance at the BP garage /Nisa shop. £5 per adult and children under 16 free. On the day, programmes and lunches will be available in the village hall from 12.00 noon, then teas and cream teas will be available from 2.30pm.

The village hall will be open until 4.30pm for teas, and until5pm for toilets. Some gardens will also offer teas and plant sales. Other places to visit on the trail are the War Memorial, Granny's Garden ,the allotments, Eastfield Wildflower Meadow, Batty Piece, the Churchyard and the village green.

As you walk round the village enjoy the Front Garden Trail where pretty and interesting front gardens can be seen.
These are marked on the map in the programme (the ticket for the event) but should only be viewed from the gate or fence and should not to be entered as they are not the Open

Gardens.
Help on the day: It is still not too late to offer to help on the day for just an hour or so. If you can help in any way, please let me know.

Scarecrows: It was previously a tradition to have scarecrows around the village for the Open Gardens and we would like to do this again this year. Anyone in the village can make a scarecrow and enter. Just put it up outside your garden, in the hedge, on the wall, or on the fence securely
and you will have entered. Please put them in place by Friday17th June. The school children will also be taking part and providing a scarecrow for each garden. There will be prizes!

Young Gardener of the Year: We last held this in2019, before Covid. If you are under 18 and are a keen gardener please get your parent's permission and get in touch, and we will visit you and your garden. South West in Bloom were very impressed by our last winner Zac Powell and he received a special mention at the South West in Bloom awards in Oct 2019. No age limit at the bottom end of
the scale, so all ages please apply, no one has applied yet so there is still time to enter.

CRiB Plant Sale: Curry Rivel in Bloom held a plant sale on Sat 7th May at the war memorial which was very well attended. Lots of people donated plants and a total of £146was raised. Thank you to everyone who came, donated plants and helped on the day. A special thank you to Northwing who
donated plants for us to sell.

South-West in Bloom Judging: The village will be judged on Monday 11th July. We hope to have all our projects finished by then, and that the village will be looking lovely.

Please help us by weeding the front of your property where the wall meets the pavement, cutting grass edges and verges.

Maybe put out some pretty pots? The village always looks lovely for judging day as so many villagers join in and spruce things up. Thank you everyone.

Jobs to do in the garden in June
Keep on top of watering. Use saucers under pots to save excess water. Have a water butt to save on your water bill. When it rains put out extra bowls and buckets to save as much as you can.

Pinch out side shoots on tomatoes and feed them when the first fruit truss flowers appear, then feed regularly. Use a banana skin feed to promote flowers and and fruit rather than chemicals.

Earth up potatoes.

Mow the lawn once a week, but consider leaving a patch to grow long to encourage wildlife. Put a large saucer of water with some pebbles down for bees and butterflies to drink and rest.

Stake tall floppy plants. Keep dead-heading flowers to encourage new growth.

Weed regularly. Whenever you go out in the garden pull up a few weeds. Little and often is the easiest way.
