Winds of up to 70mph could hit Somerset and parts of the South West with the arrival of Storm Francis.
The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for wind for much of England and all of Wales between 9am today (August 25) and 9am tomorrow (August 26).
It states the storm will bring some very strong winds leading to disruption to travel and power supplies along with potential damage to trees.
The storm could also cause injuries and danger to life from flying debris and large waves, the Met Office has said.
The weather forecasting service said gusts are likely to reach 55-60mph for many places, with exposed coasts and hills seeing gusts of around 70 mph.
It adds the winds this strong are unusual in August and they will be accompanied by some heavy rain in places, with possible transport disruption and impacts on outdoor activities.
