The Village Flower Show

Flowers with graceful forms
Bewitching shades of colour and exquisite perfume
Silent influences unconsciously felt

Loaves of bread nestle with plump sausage rolls
Victoria sponge drip with homemade jam
While the tearoom hums to happy, sated patrons

Fruits, vegetables and flowers, will the Village Hall transform
Would but the outside world offer not bullets and bombs
But sweeter cakes, better fruit and fairer flowers from earth's bounty
