On 13 March heavy vehicles moving in heralded the start of building work on the land north of Stanchester Way. Containers serving as an office and canteen were also put in place. Some vehicles prepared part of the site for use as a parking area for building workers cars and vans.
Early on a short meeting was held with Summerfield Homes' site manager Clive Linney and some local residents to determine "rules of engagement". Among the requests by homes owners in the nearby area were that radio noise be kept at a low level, litter collected at the end of every working day and that Maple Road especially be kept clear of dirt and mud.
A total of 30 dwellings is currently being built (in the lower part of the field) comprising a mix of 4-, 3- and 2- bedroom types. Included in the development are also 10 affordable dwellings. According to Summerfield's website the development will be known as "The Maples" and the properties will be available through their selling agents Bradleys Estate Agents in Taunton. The estimated time for building work to be completed is 15 months.
