Somerset Day Thursday 11th May 2017 and there will be celebrations across the county.
More events will take place on the weekend, to allow everyone to take part in the festivities.
Somerset Day celebrates Alfred the Great, King of Wessex, who in 878AD gathered all the people of Somerset to march against and defeat the invading army of the Vikings.
Events for Somerset Day
Thursday 11th May
Sandford: Thatchers Cider is holding promotions at its farm shop and a cider and cheese tasting with live entertainment from the Mendip Morris men at 7pm
Taunton: Official launch of COACH. Taunton's Centre for Outdoor Activities & Community Hub is opening between 3pm and 5pm
Bruton: Wyke Farms is launching its special edition cheese. 'Truckle' has been left to mature for over 15 months and has been waxed in a stunning black and gold livery.
Friday 12th May
Taunton: live music and street food on Castle Green from 5pm to 9pm
Saturday 13th May
Long Sutton: Craft and food fair at the village hall from 11am to 3pm
Street: events at the Crispin Centre from 10am to 4pm with buskers, markets, and King Alfred
Bishops Lydeard: craft fair and entertainment at the village hall
Taunton: Eat Taunton with over 60 local food and drink producers, livestock and buskers on Castle Green from 10am to 4pm
Crewkerne: craft fair at Victoria Hall from 10am to 2pm
Sunday 14th May
Taunton: Vintage Bus Day on Castle Green from 10.30am
Bishops Lydeard: Classic and vintage vehicle run, along with a Fun Dog Show at Gore Farm.
