Inner Wheel of Langport & Somerton Food For Thought
After a quiet Christmas period, we welcomed Sue Weightman to our meeting. She is the Project Manager for the food bank based in Taunton, also the banks in Langport and Wellington.
Her talk was very enlightening and we realised that there is much more to her work than providing food. They all work tirelessly to provide for the large numbers of those in difficulty. We were taken by surprise to find that in our own town of Langport they provided 100 food parcels, in the County town of Taunton the numbers were astounding — 4831 clients last year.
We now have a collection bag for this good cause put outside the door for anonymous donations.
It is projects like these which make Inner Wheel charity work so worthwhile as it proves that even near to home people are in need of help.
We were also proud to present another donation to Ian Roger of 1st Responders, our main charity this year.
Our next meeting is 12th February at Langport Arms. Ladies if you would like to find out more about the things we get up to, please ring Angie on 01935 840130.
