The annual Shoe Box Appeal resulted in 68 boxes being sent from the village (Blythswood Care 2016 Shoe Box Appeal); much praise should go to those involved, especially Ginny Smith and Jackie de Ronde.
The Shoe Box
The empty Shoe Box is empty no more
No longer alone, forgotten left on the floor
It has been filled with good things to share
Every day things you can find anywhere
Though maybe not in Albania, Kosovo and Ukraine
And when that Shoe Box has finally arrived
In some other place, very much deprived
Some child may see it resting there
And know that we over here are willing to share
With those in Albania, Kosovo and Ukraine
Christmas should be a time of giving and caring
To the poor and despairing, some sharing
To show that we can be humane
To a child in Albania, Kosovo and Ukraine
