Westonzoyland Pumping Station Museum of Steam Power and Land Drainage

played host to Steam on the Levels last weekend, displaying stationery steam engines, traction engines, historic agricultural machinery, vintage bicycles and classic vehicles of two, four and the occasional three wheeled variety. An eclectic mix it surely was.

The Pumping Station Museum, a small industrial heritage museum, houses Somerset's earliest steam-powered pumping station, built in 1831 to control the flooding and draining of low lying fields. Built of brick, it is the only one surviving in the area with its pumping engine still functional. It is a Grade II* listed building and a registered charity run by unpaid volunteers. It relies solely on income from visitors, subscriptions and donations. You can find out more about the pumping station and when you can visit plus information on forthcoming events here

Of course there are also many active classic and vintage vehicle clubs and shows around Somerset, so if you feel like joining in, you could look at a couple of these:

12th June – Ilminster Experience
