A Big Thank You from the Curry Rivel, Hambridge and Drayton Food Bank Volunteer Team.
It has been a very busy 9 months for our villages support group and, in particular, the Food Bank volunteers. I hope many from our community have kept up to date with our work through the website and the articles in the Curry Rivel News ( and similar publications in Hambridge and Drayton).
The work of Food Banks up and down the country has been well publicised in recent months, and we all owe a huge debt to Marcus Rashford for raising awareness nationally of the very difficult situations in which many families find themselves.
I know I speak for all our volunteers in saying a huge " thank you" to so many from our communities who have supported our own Food Bank. We have been supported by several local shops and businesses for which we are very grateful, but, equally, each week, we receive individual donations of food items and money from many in our community. It is very humbling and reassuring for those of us who volunteer and all donations go directly to our clients who need our help.
This Christmas we have provided all our clients with extra " Christmas boxes" which will, I am sure, make their Christmas a happier occasion.
We have in the last month received grants from both South Somerset District Council and Curry Rivel Parish Council which will also help to secure our immediate work and I want to thank those organisations for their generosity. This has also enabled us to purchase moveable racking for storage and to transform very much for the better our food organisation in the URC School Room. These grants are in addition to that received from Rotary
Finally, we are now fully functioning with a Business Bank account. So, if anyone from our community would wish to donate via on line on a one off or regular basis please contact me via my email below and I shall supply the relevant bank details. We are grateful to Yorkshire Bank for being most helpful in enabling a volunteer group such as ours to open an account during these COVID times.
So, as this most challenging of years draws to a close, I am passing on a huge thank you to all who have gone out of their way to support those in need in our combined villages communities and to wish everyone the best Christmas possible under all circumstances. I, personally, am touched by the way we have come together and that is what makes village living so special. The need of our clients will, almost certainly, continue next year as we anticipate financial problems may be experienced by many people, so our work will remain important.
Happy Christmas to you all.
