More Recycling On the Way

Back home  /  Latest News  /  More Recycling On the Way

An important change is coming to the way people recycle in South Somerset.

At the end of June this year Somerset Waste Partnership (SWP) will be introducing its expanded recycling service Recycle More to the district. This follows its successful launch in Mendip in October 2020 where so far it has seen recycling tonnages rise by nearly 20% and tonnages of rubbish fall by a similar amount.

This is an exciting development that will make it easier for everyone to recycle even more, helping protect the environment, tackle climate change and save taxpayers money.

The new service will mean people putting items into different recycling containers, including a new Bright Blue Bag that will be delivered before the new service starts. More recycling every week means less rubbish, so this will be collected every three weeks rather than every fortnight. Collection days will also change for some households.

Please see aside a Briefing document that covers the key points about Recycle More and the changes it will bring. You can find information on the SWP website

In the run up to launch, SWP will be running several Facebook Q&A sessions for South Somerset residents. Details of these will be shared when they are confirmed.

And we are joining forces with the Community Council for Somerset (CCS) to run several Recycle More Q&As as part of the weekly Talking Caf sessions for the district. These are hosted on the Talking Cafs page @talkingcafessomerset Please feel free to sign-post people to these. These can be viewed 'live' at the time or watched back at a later date.

All sessions take place on a Friday from 11-11.45am.

16 April: 11-11.45am

14 May: 11-11.45am

18 June: 11-11.45am

23 July: 11-11.45am

We believe Recycle More will be a big step forward for recycling in Somerset and hope you can help us spread the word. We will be sending regular updates between now and the launch of the service in South Somerset in the week beginning Monday 28 June.
