Hello and welcome to the September edition of our newsletter. It has been a very busy summer, hence the lack of a newsletter in August.

Wincanton

We have welcomed two new officers to the team, PC Andy Holloway and PCSO Beata Marcelino. They will both be looking after the area covering Castle Cary, Mudford, Ilchester and everything in between. Andy comes to the team with a wealth of experience and too many years to count in the service. PCSO Beata Marcelino is new to the role and has arrived on the team with a fantastic smile and is keen to meet the community.

Bruton and Templecombe Anti-social behaviour

We have been receiving reports of damage and alcohol bottles being left in the car park of Bruton Primary school, along with various reports of youths smoking drugs in the area. The team have been out on patrols, but if anyone sees this type of activity please ring 101 at the time, this will increase the chances of us being able to attend and deal with the issues.

Templecombe is having problems with motorbikes being used on the recreation ground and damage being caused, with trees and plants being ripped up. Patrols are being completed and any lines of enquiry are being followed up.

Bike marking

Both the Somerton and the Wincanton team took part in a bike marking event over several locations in August and also put the time to good use by offering tool marking and catalytic converter marking kits.

Other new members to the team

We now have some parking buddies who are here to help when schools are struggling with inconsiderate parking. If we have reported issues the team will attend theschool and patrol the area whilst the buddies provide a visual deterrent for those who park ina place which may cause danger to pedestrians. PCSO Tim Russell and PCSO BeataMarcelino have already been out with the new team to Bruton Primary and had positivefeedback from the community.

If you would like the buddies to visit your school please contact us by e mail to Somertonan@avonandsomerset.police.uk

Rural affairs

At the end of August some of you may have seen on our Facebook page, South Somerset Neighbourhood Policing, that we worked alongside the Rural Affairs Unit, our intelligence department and patrol colleagues in order to follow an investigation into a theft of several trailers and other machinery from Langport. Three people were arrested with stolen farm vehicles, plant equipment and a horse being recovered. They were located following intelligence received as a direct result of a message sent out through the Farm Watch Scheme.

It followed a report of a theft of high value trailers and other plant related equipment from Langport on Friday 20 August. A message about the theft was sent out via the Farm Watch network and as a result of this we received a call on Monday 23 August about suspicious activity in the Tintinhull area in which people were seen moving a trailer and fuel bowser.

Officers attended the scene and a stolen fuel bowser and a further item of machinery were recovered.

A further call was received on Tuesday 24th August which led officers to a site in Martock where further stolen items were located, including two tractors and a trailer. On Wednesday 25th August we completed the operation which resulted in the 3 arrests. This shows the true value of the Farm Watch scheme, which was set up to reduce rural crime and deter offenders, as well as improve the flow of information and intelligence between police and the farming communities and I hope it encourages even more people to join it. It also shows the value of the community providing intelligence.

If you have information regarding suspicious activity or think that someone may be handling stolen property please report either through 101 or online through the https://www.avonandsomerset.police.uk/ or report it anonymously through Crimestoppers 0800 555 111

If you wish to sign up to Farm Watch please contact us and we will visit. SomEastNPTSomertonan@avonandsomerset.police.uk
