Is it all change at CRiB?

Readers, Curry Rivel Online has heard on the Curry Rivel rumour-mill (or was it via an email sent to editor in error?) that both Gina Beauchamp and Annette Stein are resigning as Chair and Treasurer of Curry Rivel in Bloom (CRiB).

They have both worked hard for 5 years to make our village (more) beautiful. During that time CRiB has redesigned the war memorial, Granny's Garden and the sensory wall. It has established planting at the village ends and on the railings, and you can't fail to notice displays all over the village in summer.

Gina tells Curry Rivel Online that the major work has been done and that there is a dedicated band of helpers and waterers who can assist. If the work is delegated and lots of villagers help it will not be too much to do to keep our village looking lovely through the year. (Just lots of cajoling and begging eh Gina?)

CRiB needs someone to coordinate and run it, and a new treasurer.

CRiB is funded by the Parish Council and it works with them on areas such as grass cutting, Eastfield and planning outside spaces in the village.

Please get in touch with Gina if you would like to offer your help and ask any questions. If CRiB does not find a new leader it will go into dormancy with just the minimum being done to stop displays from being removed. At this time of year there is relatively little to do. The main jobs are in the spring and summer.

Gina thanks everyone in the village who has supported CRiB in any way over the last five years.

And we would like to thank Gina and Annette for their stewardship and guidance too.

Just to give you a flavour of CRiB's achievements it has (amongst other things)

  • won four gold awards in the Cox cup category of Large Village (RHS Britain in Bloom/Southwest in Bloom)
  • and a smattering of silvers too!
  • won an 'Outstanding' award for Curry Woods and the CRiB Allotment
  • awarded 'Thriving' for the Primary School entry to the 'It's Your Neighbourhood' category
  • entered Curry Woods into the 'It's Your Neighbourhood' category and the Conservation Trust was awarded The Monk Plate award for the best use of native planting (well done CWCT).

And what about Curry Rivel Open Gardens?

The event, held in June this year, generated the princely sum of £1,000 to divide between the following village organisations;

  • The Primary School and nursery
  • The Brownies and Rainbows, Beavers.
  • The Food Bank and Refugees.

The next event will be in June 2024.

Is there anyone in the village who would like to take on the organisation of this worthwhile event?
