Somerset Recycling and Refuse Collection Update - Thursday 7th January

Snow across Somerset on Tuesday night forced suspension of waste and recycling collection services on Wednesday.

A limited service has recommenced today (Thursday) but a thaw is unlikely over the next few days at least, so it is likely there will be further delays before we reach many areas. To avoid danger  to our operatives and to the general public and their property, collections will now focus on highways and pavements that are safely accessible only.  Realistically this will mean roads that have been gritted.  If you live on gritted roads you should present your waste and recyclable materials for collection.

For households on roads that have not been gritted and are therefore not safe to access ,  please separate and store clean, dry, recyclable material that won't smell or deteriorate.  Please home compost garden waste and vegetable scraps where possible.

A reasonable level of extra refuse will be accepted when next collections are made.   If your wheeled bin is already full and for properties using refuse sack services please double bag refuse and,   where possible, store out of reach of animals in a garage or shed. The low temperatures should limit deterioration and deter rodents.  In some cases collections may not be possible until the next scheduled collection date.

Household Waste Recycling Centres at Dimmer, Street, Somerton, Williton, Minehead, Frome, Saltlands (Bridgwater), Yeovil, and Middlezoy.are all open today for residents to take waste and recyclable materials.

Please accept our reassurance that every effort is being made to return collection services to normal as soon as it is safely practical to do so.

Daily up-dates are available on www.somersetwaste.gov.uk and further bulletins will be issued to local media.
