On Saturday 14th October, 17 local people attended a lively and highly participative workshop held in the Old School Room on Saving Lives. Feedback suggested that it was judged it to a great success.

The workshop, organised and funded by the Parish Council, was run by Taunton based Heartstart, a locally based charity sponsored by the British Heart Foundation. The workshop was part of a negotiated package that included the installation of the secure defibrillator situated at the garage in Curry Rivel.

Participants received tuition and practice in assessing status of patients who may have suffered cardiac arrest, carrying out CPR, use of the defibrillator and preventing a person choking.

Delegates donated £5 each and this will go towards the cost of a second defibrillator for the village.

The Parish Council is prepared to fund further workshops as a means of safeguarding members of the community and others in the event of cardiac arrest.
