The Levels Scouts have returned to the water on the River Parret, thanks to a grant from the Somerset Community Foundation for £3,500, together with another grant of £500 from the Langport and Somerton Rotary Club.  These grants have enabled the Level Scouts to purchase four double open canoes and associated equipment, which can now be used in future for expeditions.explorersonbank

The Scouts have so far used their new canoes on two occasions, ready for the first day trip this year during the Easter Holidays.  Both evening paddles were beautifully clear and as Becky Owen, aged 17 said "It was great to be back on the water". asthesunsetsExplorersheadbackhomeJakeandBeccacelebratebeingbackonthewater

Six of the Explorer Scouts are planning to complete their Duke of Edinburgh Gold Expedition by canoe in the summer of 2012, so training starts in earnest, now that they have the correct equipment, thanks to the generosity of the Somerset Community Foundation and the Langport & Somerton Rotary Club.
