This month, our speaker Mr Brown, came with just a bundle of sycamore twigs and some sharp penknives.  He showed us how to make these twigs into beautiful flowers and Christmas trees and by the time he had left, we had our own flowers to take home.  They may not have won any prizes but it was good fun and we can only get better!

There’s still plenty going on in the W.I to keep us busy.  All the institutes in the county will get together at Westlands in Yeovil at the end of October for our Annual Meeting.  It’s a chance to meet up with friends from around the county and hear all the latest news and plans for the future.  The guest speaker will be Sarah Raven, a well-known writer and occasional presenter on Gardener’s World, who will certainly be a great inspiration to everyone there.  We’ll also be visiting a farm near Crewkerne to find out more about ‘mega’ farms and a National Trust property before they close down for the winter.

Congratulations to our skittles team who won their first match by 17 pins – a brilliant result and it looks like we might avoid the wooden spoon this year!
