Wonderful aromas filled the hall at our July meeting as we enjoyed a demonstration of Chinese Cookery. Aileen Hase prepared four dishes for us and we all had the chance to taste them. She made it look so easy and I think some of us will certainly be trying them at home. The secret is in the preparation and having everything ready before you start cooking.

It’s been a busy month for us. We were lucky to have a dry day for our Open Gardens and strawberry tea – the gardens were looking great and the strawberries and shortcake disappeared very quickly. Our stall at the Church fete attracted a fair number of visitors and thank you to everyone who had a go at our quiz sheet. The next week, a group of us went to Dillington House for a very interesting talk from the director, Wayne Bennett. We had a look round both the old and new buildings and were so impresssed that we’re now looking to see how we can get back there again. What a treasure on our doorstep.
We don’t have a meeting in August but we still have lots to do. We have a coffee morning and a few days later, we meet at Heale House, by the kind invitation of Mrs O’Malley, for a game of Golf Croquet. We have someone there to organise the games and help us with our technique and it is always great fun. The next week we will be hosting a summer walk and tea in the Village Hall. We expect about 50 visitors from villages around here and it is always a very popular event.
We have something for everyone and there is always a warm welcome for new members. Our next meeting in September is a talk from the Body Shop Company. If you’d like to come and find out more about us, call Jackie German on 01458 259688 or Sheila Sandifer on 01460 281308 for more information.
