East Field.

Blackthorn.  Prunus spinosa.

Now is the time to visit East Field to see the blackthorn.. Choose a time when the clouds clear enough for the sun to show case the brilliant white blossom. The blossom will become the familiar sloes used for jam and wine but now we have a brief time to see this magnificent, spirit lifting wonder of nature.

Not in two weeks because you’ll miss it at its best and you’ll have to wait another 12 months.

You can see blackthorn in hedges around the countryside but usually it has been slashed back. Here in East field the hedges have been left untouched for some years and that gives us this grand spectacle.
