Drop-In
Drop-In is held in the church, every Tuesday between 2.00 and 4.00 pm. Freshly baked cakes and beverages are served in a friendly & welcoming gathering of people who meet for an informal chat.
The Church Fete is the major annual summer activity, held in July on The Green. 06_-_Fete_visitors_around_the_Green_optMuch work is put into this event which gives a chance for the church to provide a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon of entertainment to the whole village. It is also a major opportunity to raise needed funds; at the 2011 fete over £ 3,600 was raise. The 2012 fete will be on Saturday 7th July.
Bible Study
• From time to time study groups, including the Lent course, take place as advertised.
• For Bible Reading Fellowship notes, ‘Guidelines’, ‘New Daylight’ or ‘Day by Day with God’: contact Mrs. Rosemary Leaf on 01458-252438.
Prayer / prayer chain
Prayer plays an important part in the Benefice. At times prayer evenings are organised at St. Catherine’s in Swell. There is a prayer chain for emergency prayer. Revd Nan Shrimpton is, on behalf of the Rector, the overall coordinator in the Benefice. There are 3 ‘prayer chains’ in the Benefice: two centred in Curry Rivel (contacts: Nan Shrimpton 01458 259253 and Peggy Richards 01458 251278) and one in Fivehead / Swell (contact: Margaret Smith 01460 281555). Requests for prayers can be made through any prayer chain and will be dealt with on a strictly confidential basis. Chain members will pray daily for 2 weeks, but this can be continued if the need is long-term. Requests for a name to be included on the monthly newssheet: contact the Rector.
The Benefice participates in Women’s World Day of Prayer, each year on the 1st Friday in March; this event is always well attended.
Prayers & Bears
This is a fun time with songs, Bible stories, craft and refreshments for pre-school children with their parents or carers. It is held in St. Martin’s Church, Fivehead on the first Friday of each month. Contact: Mrs. Meg Tyler on 01460-281574.

Pastoral Care
Life isn’t always straightforward and sometimes we all need a confidential listening ear. In the Benefice we have a team of people trained for this purpose. If you need their help, please contact the Rector. The Church can not promise to solve all problems but we will try our best to be alongside those who ask.
Also, a network of ‘eyes and ears’ exists in the various areas of the village, to inform a co-ordinator of new arrivals. Church visitors will welcome newcomers and carry out general visiting.
The Rector has overall responsibility for this work and will be available to anyone as needed; she is also happy to take home Communion to those who are house-bound.
Good Neighbour Scheme - this scheme has closed at the end of 2010 as there was no longer sufficient demand for this support network.
Langport Area Christians Together (LACT)
Under this initiative, representatives from the Churches from different Christian denominations in the Langport area (Anglican, Baptist, Roman Catholic, United Reformed and Quakers) meet regularly, to look at ways in which the churches can worship and work together. An ecumenical service takes place on the 5th Sunday in a month, in one of the churches. LACT join together at other times of the year, especially during Lent when we seek to study together, leading into the Easter celebrations. This takes place at St. Gilda’s Christian Centre, in Langport.
Information about events is published in the monthly ‘pew sheet’ issued in church, on church notice boards, in the Curry Rivel News and Fivehead News.
