Curry Rivel Cricket Club can boast that it is the oldest club in the village with centenary birthday celebrations but a distant memory. A long tradition like ours needs to be nurtured and maintained and this is exactly what is happening at the Club’s headquarters in Wiltown. With a respectful nod to the past the Club focuses very much on the future supporting as it does a thriving junior and youth section.

Curry Rivel Under 11's played well as an organised team and this showed in their first full match in the Taunton Under 11 League. With Huish & Langport batting first the young new comers to the team had no hint of nerves. Owen and George opened the bowling for Curry Rivel and both took wickets in their second overs. With George in his first league match recording a wicket maiden. Lewis , Henri Wimott both bowled well putting the Huish & Langport batsman under pressure. Joshua Greasley bowled two excellent over's recording a maiden over and taking a wicket in his second this in his first league match. Hamish Hunter in his first match bowled well on target.Jacob Newman was unlucky not to take a wicket in his fine bowling spell. Oscar Samuel put the batsman under pressure with some very accurate bowling had was awarded with a wicket in the final over. Huish & Langport in there 16 over's scored 217.The Curry Rivel batting was controlled and which was an excellent effort by the team who took advance of the extras from Huish & Langport bowling.
The whole team batted well with with Owen Wilce & George Clark defending their wickets well. Henri Willmott was again noticeable with his powerful shots. Lewis Perry defended his wicket well and was not out. Joshua Greasey hit some powerful fours ablely supported by Hamish Hunter playing some classical drives who was not out in his first league match. Oscar Samuel & Jacob Newman relished the bowling hitting 5 fours between them. |

Match Report by Lewis Perry
On Friday 30th April, Curry Rivel under 11's travelled to Wembdon to play their first game of the season. The weather was very kind to us as the weather forecast was for a rain-affected match.
Curry Rivel batted first and scored 252 runs in 16 overs with the loss of only 2 wickets . The whole team batted very well with my friend Oscar Samuel, at the age of 8, scoring 6 runs, four of them off the first ball he faced.
Wembdon batted 2nd and started slowly with the loss of some early wickets but then started to fight back scoring some valuable runs to create a exciting finish to the game. Needing 12 runs off the last over they got a edged four to third man off the first ball but then some good bowling from Angus, our team captain, left them needing 6 runs off the last ball but they only managed to get a four. This left Curry Rivel to win by one nailbitting run!!!!!!!!!
What a game!!! |
