The Heale Lane Allotment Association is a recently formed village group which rents the Heale Lane Site from the Parish Council and is responsible for the day to day running of the site.  Curry  Rivel has a long established tradition of Allotments the site having been gifted to the Parish Council by the Pynsent Estate in the early 1900’s and has been used since then by local residents to “grow their own”.

We have in all 34 plots of which 20 are full plots and 14 and are half plots. At present all plots are “occupied” holders being automatically members of the Association. Plot sizes tend to be “historical” although a full plot is probably around 250 sq m  (303 sq yds or 10 poles in old money) and costs £25 per year while half plots cost £15.  There is a management  committee, currently of ten members, with Chair Bob Fuller, Treasurer Ken Jacobs and Secretary Tony Potts.  We meet  quarterly to discuss any problems and to organize activities. Currently a small working party is taking in hand some of the overgrown borders of the site and  we hope to arrange some social activities  (BBQ’s   etc) in the summer. The Association exists not only to manage  the site but also to promote ‘good practice’ on the allotments so that allotmenters can get maximum yield for effort. In practice that means we are always happy to pass on advice and much can be learned by chatting to those with years of experience or just  with  good ideas.

The Heale Lane Allotment  Association is affiliated to the National Society of Allotment and Leisure Gardeners which offers advice , legal and horticultural, to Allotment Associations nationally  and keeps allotmenters across the country in touch.

Although all allotments are currently taken we have a waiting list, short at present, and anyone interested in obtaining an allotment  or  wanting more information should contact  the Secretary  (Tony Potts)  on 01458 253953
