Fancy an hour in the fresh air with like-minded people? Admittedly, it’s a bit parky in the winter but as long as you wrap up warm the fresh air is good for you and in the summer you could even get a tan.    I am trying to talk you into joining Speed Watch for the powers that be decree that we will be closed down if we don’t do two watches a week.We get approached by many people congratulating us on doing a good job for the village but no one ever offers to join us.   Some say they don’t have time to get involved because they are working.  Rubbish.  Some of our volunteers do an hour’s speed watch before they go to work or give an hour of their time at weekends.  This month a car collided with a parked car in the High Street causing extensive damage – it could have been yours.  His excuse, ‘I don’t know what happened’.  Not good enough he lost control because he was speeding.  It could have been anyone standing in that spot waiting to cross the road.  For year’s we have put up with Parcel Force vans speeding through at over 40mph.  Police involvement has now put their brakes on.I volunteered to set up speed watch over 4 years ago and eight of the original members still remain with a few joining us along the way.  The more volunteers we have the less watches each person has to do, so the question is, ‘Do you want to make a difference’?I would like to believe there are a few people living in Curry Rivel prepared to give up an hour (no more than two) once a month to help us bring speeders to justice and make this a safer place to live.  Please don’t let me think I’m living in a dream world. Pick up the phone and talk to me on 01458 253255.
