Somerset had approx 100-150mm of snow between 1.00 and 5.30 this morning all over the county. Farm ploughs in all areas have been mobilised and are working on the secondary network allowing our gritters to concentrate on the pre-treated network. There is a good salt bed down but needs trafficking to activate the de-icing properties and roads should improve slightly until more snow falls. There are several hills, Monument Hill, A358 out of Donyatt, Cheddar George, Porlock Hill etc which are causing problems and will be treated when resources permit. We do not expect more snow in the next few hours apart from the odd light dusting but more heavy falls are expected later today. Crews are on a 12hr shift pattern and we will plough/treat continuously until the dangers have passed.
