Circus Skills and Exotic Animals.

It’s all part of the fun for local children

Wondering how to find a few hours of inexpensive entertainment for the children or how to prize them away from the cyber world?  Bring them along to the C of E Primary School where, between 1-4pm on Saturday 25 September, there will be free entertainment to suit all ages.climbing-wall

Organiser of the event, Cllr Kaye Morgan said: “Our community needs to support our future generation and this will be a free fun event for children from all walks of life living in Curry Rivel and the surrounding parishes. The objective is to promote a sense of community among all our families by encouraging children to play together in the fresh air, enjoy face to face interaction while providing an element of education.  Hopefully, it will become an annual event”.

This fun filled event, which will celebrate the end of a fantastic summer, will have more than 30 activities including circus skills, a climbing wall, hands on experience with exotic animals, close encounters with birds of prey and a host of other outdoor activities.  The children will also be encouraged to make sculptures from recycled materials and engage in seed planting to encourage environmental awareness.

On arrival, every child will receive a passport on which to write their name, age and their village and be encouraged to collect stamps from every activity they take part in.  At the end of the event, the child with the most number of stamps in their passport will receive a gift. The children will also be encouraged to write their thoughts on around 100 balloons that will soar to the sky to mark the conclusion of the event..

The adults have not been forgotten. There will be an array of craft stalls for anyone wanting to do some early Christmas shopping and tombola, and local activity groups will be promoting themselves.  Refreshments include a Pimms bar,  BBQ and afternoon tea/coffee and cakes served by the WI.

The generosity of many of the children’s event providers has been terrific with some supplying their equipment and time free of charge or at heavily discounted rates. Due to the current financial state of the country it has been very difficult raising funds to pay for the event but so far grants and sponsorship have come in from South Somerset District Council and Barclays Bank,” said Kaye who has organized some fantastic prizes for a raffle that will be drawn on the evening of  September 5 at ‘The King  William’ pub in the village, where, that same evening, she is arranging a quiz.

There are 16 prizes providing something for everyone. So, if a free gliding lesson, courtesy of the Mendip Flying Club doesn’t get your excitement soaring; there are many more down to earth prizes including a £73 service of an oil fired boiler, kindly donated by Graham Cave or a £54 MOT test from Wiltown Garage.
